Chart Plotter Software Update

 

For Windows Vista and Windows 7

 

 

This software will update your chart plotter to version 1.09.00 R.

 

This software is ONLY for the following models:

  • MC 600Ci

  • MC 600Cx

Please print these instructions so that they are handy during the update process. 

 

 

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • PC Running 32-bit Windows Vista or 32-bit Windows 7 (64-bit operating systems are not supported)

  • Mini USB Cable (commonly used with digital cameras)

  • If you have a laptop computer, then the update can be applied in your boat.  If you do not have a laptop, then you will need a power supply to power the chart plotter at the computer.

 

STEP 1 of 4 - CHECK THE SOFTWARE IN YOUR UNIT

  1. Turn on your unit.

  2. After your unit starts up, press the PAGE button to get to the SYSTEM page.

  3. Scroll down to "ABOUT" and press ENTER.

  4. Read the software version on the second line.  If you have V1.08 or lower, you can proceed to update your unit.

  5. Turn off the chart plotter.

 

STEP 2 of 4 - DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE    

 

Click <HERE> to download the software update.

 

After you have downloaded the software file, run the embedded application and then choose Unzip.  This will place the software into a folder named c:\MC600.  After the files are extracted, click OK and then click on Close.

 

 

STEP 3 of 4 - INSTALL THE USB DEVICE DRIVER    

Please note that this is a 32-bit driver.  A 64-bit driver is not available.

  1. Connect the chart plotter to a USB port on the PC using the USB cable.  DO NOT yet connect the power cable.

  2. Now connect the power cable to the chart plotter but do not turn it on.  The chart plotter should beep, which indicates that a connection has been established.

  3. The PC should recognize a new USB device and a window should pop up.  Proceed as follows:

  1. Click on Locate and Install Driver Software.

  2. Windows will attempt to automatically install the device driver, but it will probably fail.  Click on Browse my Computer for Driver Software.

  3. Click on Browse.

  4. Click on Computer.

  5. Click on Local Disk (C:).

  6. Click on the folder MC600 and then click on OK.

  7. Click on Next.

  8. If you get a security popup, click on Install this driver software anyway.

  9. Windows should install the driver.

  1. After the driver is done installing, click on Close.

  2. The driver is now installed.  Disconnect all cables from the chart plotter. 

 

STEP 4 of 4 - INSTALL THE SOFTWARE UPDATE

  1. Connect the chart plotter to a USB port on the PC using the mini-USB cable.  DO NOT yet connect the power cable.

  2. Now connect the power cable to the chart plotter but do not turn it on.  The chart plotter should beep, which indicates that a connection has been established.

  3. Click on the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the your screen, and then click on Computer.

  4. Under Hard Disk Drives, double-click on Local Disk (C:)

  5. Double-click on the folder MC600.

  6. Double-click on the file Update.exe.  This will start the update program.

  7. Click on FILE and then click on OPEN.

  8. Click on the bar at the top (where it says "Look in").

  9. Click on Computer.

  10. Double-click on Local Disk (C:).

  11. Double-click on the folder MC600.

  12. Double-click on the file Loader.swx

  13. Click on Flash (at the top) and then click on Program LDR.

  14. After the update is complete, click on OK.

  15. Click on Tools, click on Select Components, and then click on Browse.

  16. Double-click on Local Disk (C:).

  17. Click on the folder MC600 and then click on OK.

  18. Click the checkbox only for the following file:

  • C:\MC600\Software_Ci.swx    (if you have model MC 600Ci)

  • C:\MC600\Software_Cx.swx   (if you have model MC 600Cx)

  1. Click on OK.

  2. Click on Tools and then click on Send Components.

  3. After the update is complete, click on OK.

  4. This completes the software update.  Please disconnect all cables from the chart plotter.

 

 

 

Device Driver Troubleshooting

 

If you do not get a popup window in step 3 of the device driver installation procedure: 

  1. First make sure that in step 2, the chart plotter beeps when power is connected.  You should first connect the USB cable, then the power cable.  If the chart plotter does not beep:

    1. There may be a power problem.  Disconnect the USB cable and try to turn on the chart plotter.  If it does not turn on then the chart plotter is not getting power.

    2. There may be a USB problem.  Try connecting the chart plotter to a different USB port on the computer.

     

  2.  If the chart plotter beeps in step 2 but you do not get a popup window in step 3:

    1. Disconnect all cables from the chart plotter.

    2. Close all windows on the computer.

    3. Connect the USB cable to the chart plotter.

    4. Connect the power cable to the chart plotter.  It should beep.

    5. Click on the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the your screen, and then click on Computer.

    6. On a blank area of the screen Right-click (not left-click) and choose Properties.

    7. Click on Device Manager in the upper-left.

    8. Under the category "Other Devices", Right-click on Unknown Device and choose Uninstall.

    9. After it has been uninstalled, disconnect all cables from the chart plotter.

    10. You can now go back to the device driver installation.  Start at step number 1.
